He was married to the former Bettye Marvel, for 64 years.

Delbert Disler, 91, of One Park Place in Owensboro KY passed on April 26, 2005, 9:37 P.M. at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Owensboro, KY. Until 4 years ago he resided in Oakland City, IN and wintered in Palm Harbor FL.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Bettye Marvel Disler, their two daughters Jennifer (Tom) Green of Owensboro, KY, Martha (Greg) Clark of Louisville, KY and a son Mike (Carole) Disler of Sebring, FL; they also have (6) grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 1 great-granddaughter. He was the seventh of 12 children and he is also survived by a brother Kenneth Disler and a sister Edna Augenstein both of Ft. Wayne IN.
Mr. Disler was born in Ft. Wayne, IN and after graduation from Southside High School he attended Purdue University on a football scholarship. After 3 semesters he transferred to Manchester College where he played football until graduating with a BS degree in Physical Education, Health and Biology. He then got his Masters Degree from Indiana University where he was inducted into the Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity.
During W.W. II he served as a 1st. Lieutenant in the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. After the war he attended the University of Evansville to complete requirements for a high school principal and superintendent's license. He went to Oakland City College and coached basketball, baseball, was Athletic Director and taught Driver's education, health, physical education for 181/2 years. At the same time he taught social studies and economics at Oakland City High School and coached football. In 1965 when Oakland City consolidated and became Wood Memorial he was hired as the schools first principal. Five years later he was named Superintendent of East Gibson School Corporation this fulfilling a lifetime goal and enjoyed the position until he retired in 1978.
He was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist in Oakland City an enjoyed 51 years of perfect attendance at the Kiwanis Club. He was inducted into the first Hall of Fame in 1993 at Oakland City University. As a college coach "Chief" Disler enabled many young men to attend college who would not otherwise have been able to go.
Funeral Service will be Saturday April 30, 2005, 10:30 A.M. at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Dr. Douglas Low officiating, with burial to follow in Montgomery Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Lamb-Basham Memorial in Oakland City, In. from 9:30 A.M. until services at the church on Saturday.
