Mr. Count "C. J." Brantley, 91, died Sunday (May 11, 2008) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after a short illness.

He was a native of Millwood, lived in Jacksonville, FL for forty years and then lived in Georgetown, FL before moving to Waycross in 1991. He was the son of the late Count Julian Brantley, Sr. and Mollie Williams Brantley. He was preceded in death by a son, Wm. Gary Brantley.

He was a Civil Service employee for the United States Navy from 1941 to 1974 overhauling Aircraft in Jacksonville, FL. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II. He attended Mt. Green Church of God of Prophecy.

The survivors include a son, Carroll J. Brantley (wife Sharon) of Westminster, SC; five grandchildren, Chris Brantley (wife Sandra) of Silver Springs, MD, Lisa Leka (husband Larry) of Corvallis, OR, Mark Brantley of Woodstock, Amanda Hull (husband Todd) of Aurora, IL and Tammy Smith Brantley of Fremont, FL; ten great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Sadie Brantley of Millwood and Baptist Village and Joyce Boyd of Sylvester; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (May 14, 2008) at the Mitchell Chapel at Baptist Village. The burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Music Funeral Home.
