Ernest Tilford Oftedahl was the firstborn of Ommund E. Oftedahl and Emma Mortenson Oftedahl. He was born in their log cabin at Coon Prairie, northwest of Viroqua, Wisconsin. This cabin has been restored and has a family living in it in Chaseburg, Wisconsin.
Ernest married Florence Melrose Kessel on June 29, 1912 in Brookings, South Dakota. They had one daughter, Viola (Mrs. Leon T. Hoose), and two grandchildren, Mary Ellen, and Katherine.
Ernest was an amateur radio operator, and worked as a claim agent for Railway Express in San Francisco.
