Harriette (Paarmann) Buff died Thursday, Jan. 6, at the age of 87, at her home, in Davenport, after a short illness. Celebration of Life services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ, Davenport. Harriette was born Aug. 21, 1917, to Will A. and Hulda (Struck) Paarmann. She was the seventh of nine children, and she remained close to her brothers and sisters throughout the years. She would gather them together for many dinners and parties celebrating holidays annually. Harriette was married Sept. 18, 1951, to Marvin H. Buff, who preceded her in death. They had been married 50 years. She was a 1935 graduate from Davenport High school, where she was active in music groups. In the early years, she was employed by the Schmidt Music Company, Kresge's, where she was a department head, and the Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1984. She was very active in the Telephone Pioneer Group. She was also active in civic endeavors such as the Chamber of Commerce and civic projects including the Festival of Trees. A member of the First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ, she was very active in all church activities including CWF, the church choir of which she was a member of 40 years, and for many years handled the church receptions for weddings and other gatherings. Her love of music and appreciation of music was always very much in evidence and very important to her. She was active in many fund-raising projects for the church. She loved crafts and was especially proud of her holiday wreath making. She very much enjoyed her friends at the church and also her wonderful neighbors. She is survived by two sisters, Mildred Schneff and Claire Lamb; two brothers, Carl Paarmann and Ralph Paarmann, all of the Quad-Cities; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Fae Schlueter and Ruth Phares, and two brothers, Walter Paarmann and William Paarmann, Jr.
