DAVENPORT - Ralph E. Paarmann, 88, of Davenport died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport. Private family services will be held with public memorial services at a later date. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting his family with arrangements.
Mr. Paarmann was born in 1924 in Davenport, to William Sr. and Hulda Paarmann. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Aug. 9, 1952, he married Florence M. Lamansky in Fairfield, Iowa. He was a music teacher with the Iowa Public School System for 39 years, retiring in 1989. Twenty-nine of those years were spent as director of bands at West High School, Davenport. Ralph also directed the First Christian Church choir, Davenport, for 40 years. He was a member of the Iowa Bandmasters Association and started the Retired Director's Band (IBARD).
Survivors include his wife, Florence; daughters, Laura Paarmann of Charles City, Iowa, and Julie (John) Stolt of Waller, Texas; sons, Douglas E. (Rose) Paarmann of San Antonio and William E. (Ruth) Paarmann of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He had been preceded by five sisters and three brothers.
