Wilson Shannon Grubaugh was born in 1837 to Jonathan H. Grubaugh and Henrietta Wallace in Richland County, Ohio. He was the 9th of their 10 children, all of whom grew to adulthood. Wilson is found in Morrow County, OH in 1860 and he served in Company, C, 10th Ohio Infantry from 22 Apr 1861 to 1 Feb 1864, serving as a Private. On 17 Aug 1865, he married Mary S. Hinton and they had 11 children together - 6 girls and 5 boys - Callie, Lillian Belle, George W., Alice Jeannette, John Edward, Rose May, Mary "Mamie", Bertchard Hayes "Bert", Wilson Shannon, Jr., Robert Franklin and Jesse. Jesse died a week after her birth, but the other 10 children all lived to adulthood. Wilson died in 1905 and his wife, Mary died 4 years later. They are buried next to each other.
