Benjamin was the son of Benjamin Hampton and Ann Wildman Hampton. Their surname was sometimes spelled Hamton.

He was a Quaker.

He married Margaret Pownall on the 5th month 10th, 1786 at the Monthly Meeting, Buckingham Twp., Bucks Co. He was described on his marriage certificate as a yeoman, or farmer.

The couple had nine children: Moses in 1787, Benjamin in 1790, Sarah in 1792, Joseph in 1794, Margaret in 1797, Hannah Pownall in 1799, Mary and Ann in 1800 (twins) and Katherine in 1805.

The Hampton family, with other Quakers, settled in Quakertown (Franklin Twp.), Hunterdon Co., New Jersey.

It is assumed, but not confirmed, that he was buried in the Friends Cemetery, Quakertown.
