Educator was active in her church, community
Rose M. Chiki, 96, of Berwick passed away peacefully Monday, April 4, 2022, at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville. Born in Berwick on September 29, 1925, she was a daughter to the late Charles and Mary (Kovacs) Chiki.
Ms. Chiki was a graduate of Berwick High School's Class of 1944. She furthered her education at Bloomsburg State College, earning her bachelor's degree in 1966 and her master's degree in 1973.
Rose had worked at the AC&F in her younger years before moving to New York for a short time. She taught at St. Mary's School in Berwick, and later at St. Joseph's School, retiring in 1988.
A woman of great faith, she was a member of Immaculate Conception BVM Church, where she served as a lector and an Ordinary Eucharistic Minister. She regularly took communion to residents at Berwick Retirement Village and was a member of the Funeral Choir. Rose was a kind soul who gave generously of her time. She was active with Meals On Wheels in Berwick, Adult Literacy, and assisted with taxes at the Senior Citizens Center in Berwick. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Ms. Chiki is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by siblings: Louise Kovach, Agnes Federicci, Mary Kline, Theresa Chamberlain, Charles Chiki, and Rudolph Chiki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Immaculate Conception BVM Church, 1730 Fowler Ave., Berwick, PA 18603. The Reverend William T. Barbee will officiate as celebrant. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Berwick, will follow.
