DeIla T. Chappell
Fremont, Utah - On April 18, 2007 our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, DeIla Taylor Chappell, was released from the pain of her physical body. She died at her home in Fremont, Utah, surrounded by her loving husband, sons and family. DeIla was born on a leap year, February 29, 1928 in Fremont, Utah, the seventh of eight children born to David Alvin and Julia Anna Morrell Taylor. She graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1946. She married Craig Maxfield Chappell, November 10, 1946 in Fremont, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple February 22, 1949. DeIla was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in leadership positions in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. She was also very active in community and civic affairs. DeIla was instrumental in getting legislation passed for the down winders, people impacted by the fallout of radiation. She was actively involved in getting monies for the DUP Park in Fremont. For many years, she was the scheduler of activities held in the "Old Rock Church" in Fremont. For years, DeIla was the postmaster in Fremont, running the office from her home. Later she became the postmaster at Bicknell from where she retired. From this position, Mom learned exactness, always balancing her books to the penny. To this day, her financial books balance to the very penny. DeIla was a classy, elegant lady. She was intelligent and highly valued education. Her work ethic was exemplary, working on the farm and in the home. Her compassion and kindness for neighbors was a guiding principle for her life. Before pain and illness slowed her body, she often delivered the best of home made bread to neighbors and friends. DeIla had no attachments to the things of this world, often giving away things that she said would benefit others. She was generous to a fault. Mother was wise, often giving counsel to her sons about the principles of life, never dictating, always inviting to the higher path. She was a devoted wife, a true helpmate in every sense of the word. Mom was quick to laugh and quicker to cry. She was a devoted, loyal friend, held strong opinions, yet never was judgmental. She took great pride in her home, both inside and out. "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", she would say. She didn't know what procrastination was. "If you have a job to do, get it done" was her creed. Mom was a woman of integrity, she lived her life true to her highest principles. DeIla is survived by her devoted and caring husband, Craig M. Chappell. She often expressed appreciation for his kindness, love and care for her as she struggled with her debilitating illness. She was his eyes, he was her legs. Also survived by her two sons: C. Bradford and Flora Chappell of Mapleton; Stan T. and Becky Chappell of Richfield; 8 grandchildren: Joshua and Dana Chappell of Spanish Fork; Craig De and Aubrey Chappell of Pittsfield, MA; David and Sommer Chappell of Saratoga Springs; Amanda and Marlon Lindsay of West Hartford, CT; Sadie and Ric Jaggi of Washington; Mitzi and Seth Lundgreen of Monroe; Candice and Tony Barney, Kyle Lynn Chappell, all of Richfield; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Vance Taylor of Fremont. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: Alvin Taylor, Evan Taylor, Don Taylor, Emma Taylor, Myrle Taylor and Anna Dean Baker. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the church in Fremont Tuesday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Fremont Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
