FREMONT, UT--A lvin G. Taylor passed away on February 7, 2001 at his home in Fremont at the age of 88 years.

He was born in Fremont, Utah, a son of David Alvin and Julia Anna Morrell Taylor on July 12, 1912. He was the oldest of eight children. A younger brother, Evan, passed away in 1986. The other brothers, Vance and Don, live in Fremont and Bicknell. Alvin had four sisters, DeIla Chappell lives in Fremont with her husband, Craig; Anna Dean Baker resides in Ontario, California with her husband, Seth; an infant sister, Emma, died near childbirth and a beautiful sister, Myrle, died in 1934 at the age of 16 years.

Alvin married Laura Pearl Behunin on September 3, 1932 in Torrey, Utah. Their union was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on June 1, 1934. Pearl was the love of Alvin's life, and it was her soft and steady hand that brought out the greatness in his character. Her spiritual guidance was unwavering.

Pearl passed away August 13, 1992. The loss was difficult for Alvin at the time, but their reunion has now healed that wound.

Alvin and Pearl are the parents of four children. Philip Alvin is the oldest. He married Audrey Fenstemaker. She passed away in recent years after a courageous battle with cancer. Philip remarried and lives with his wife, Diane, in Bicknell. The second child, Steven David, married Judith Hull. They were later separated. Steve now lives with his current wife, Joyce, and their two sons in Anchorage, Alaska. Their only daughter, Anna Laura Moosman, lives with her husband, Jerry, in Woods Cross. She held a special place in Alvin's heart, and her unselfish commitment to her father has been his mainstay for many years. The youngest of the children, Marcus, lives with his wife, Marianne, in Richfield.

In addition to his children, Alvin is survived by 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Alvin's service to church and community has been significant. He served as president of the U.M. Grazing Association for many years, and as a young man, he was the range rider for the organization where he and Pearl spent their summers, living in a tent. Alvin was instrumental in his work for the Fremont Irrigation Company in developing the Mill Meadow Reservoir. That project has been an untold benefit for the farm and ranching business in Wayne County.

A decade later, Alving spearheaded the construction of a new LDS Chapel in Fremont. As bishop of the ward, he pulled the community together for the project when labor and materials were furnished primarily by local ward members.

Alvin was also prominent in serving as a board member of the Soil Conservation District for 25 years. He was known for strict integrity in his business dealings.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 12, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West, in Richfield, Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Fremont, Monday from 11-12:30 prior to the services.
