Alfred Calvin Pinkney was born December 28, 1924 in Newberry, South Carlina. His parents were Johnnie and Luella Scurry Pinkney. He married Margaret Smith and was father to Alfred Ray, Robert Pinkney, Alfreda Pinkney, Harry Smith, and Patsy Pinkney. He passed from this life August 19, 1994, in Washington, D.C. at the Veterans Memorial Hospital.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served well and was discharged honorably in 1947. Upon discharge from the Army, he moved to Wahington, D.C. and married the late Margaret Pinkney and from the union three children were born.

Alfred leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his beloved children Alfreda Ray of Washington, D.C., Patsy Williams of Oxon Hill, Maryland, Robert Pinkney of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Alfreida Pinkney of Trenton, New Jersey, and Harry Smith of Rock Hill, South Carolina; three brothers Colie Pinkney of Trenton, New Jersey, Emanuel Muhammad of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and William Pinkney of Washington, D.C.; four sisters Maryam Muhammad of Trenton, New Jersey, Benny Lee Murphy of Jersey City, New Jersey, Ethel Taylor and Nancy Yates of Washington, D.C.; a very special friend Dorothy Goldring of Washington, D.C., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held Thursday, August 25, 1994 at 12:30 p.m. at W.W. Chambers Funeral Home, Riverdale Maryland, officiated by the Rev. Earl Britt.
