OBITUARY
George S. Whitaker, one of the oldest men on the Divide, passed peacefully away at his home, four miles east of Keysor. The deceased was a well preserved old man and possessed remarkably good health. He was only sick a few days and gradually sank away. Mr. Whitaker was born in Tennessee October 23, 1826. He moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, in 1853 where he resided until about six years ago when he moved to his late home in Colorado. He was aged 83 years, 6 months and 7 days. His wife departed this life May 18, 1891, at the age of 62 years. There were born to them eight children, six of whom are still living to mourn the loss of a good, kind and Christian father. The living are Etta, wife of C. L. Goss, Waldon, Kan., Estella, wife of William Shaw, O'Neil, Neb, John N., Beaconsfield, Iowa, Anna, James and Charles, of Keysor.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from his late home, Rev. William Graning conducting the services. The text was Isaiah 40:6, 7, and 8. The remains were laid to rest in the Mountain View cemetery.
