Margaret Ruth Davis Stubbs was born in Washington, but the family later moved to nearby Idaho. She was the daughter of Nellie Johnson and David W. Davis, governor of Idaho (1919-1923). After her father's terms as governor, the family moved to Washington, DC where Gov. Davis was special assistant to the Secretary of the Interior. Margaret took her bachelor's degree from Hillsdale College in Michigan. After her marriage to young attorney Daniel Stubbs, they lived mainly in Lincoln, Nebraska and later in Alliance, Nebraska. Margaret loved entertaining and was a very skilled weaver
