When John Allen Blair Weir was born on March 9, 1857 in Alabama his father Leonard Lindsey was 38 and his mother Susan Frances was 32. His mother Susan was a midwife and occasionally worked for a local doctor, John Blair. Susan and Leonard must have thought a lot of Doc Blair as they gave John Allen a third middle name of Blair after ole Doc Blair. He was also one of their neighbors as was his oldest son, already married and out on his own.
John Allen Blair was 3 before he would be counted in his first census with his parents Leonard 40 and his mother Susan 35, he had 2 older sisters, Missouri 13 and Mary Frances 12, and a younger brother William Hoffman 1 in the 1860 Limestone County, Alabama census. His father, Leonard L was a carpenter.
In 1870 Limestone County, Alabama census the family was listed as WERE.
His father, was listed as Leonidas was 53, Susan was 53 Missouri gone from the home Mary Frances was the oldest now at 20, John was 13, William was 11. John had more siblings now, Virginia 9, Sidney J. 7, and Alice 4. John and William was listed as farm labor, must have worked for their father on the farm. as according to the value it was a rather large farm.
In the 1880 Limestone County, Alabama census the family was listed as WARE. His father, LL was 56, Susan was 57 Missouri and Mary Frances were gone from the home and John 23, was the oldest living at home, William was 21. Virginia 19, Sidney 17, and Alice 14. There were two laborers listed living with the family, Moses Hudson and Richard Montgomery.
According to the information given by John to the enumerator of the 1900 census he married Nancy J "Susan" Bates in 1883 at the age of 26.
On June 8, 1900 the census for the community of Georgia, in Limestone County, Alabama listed as head of household is John A age 43 born in March 1857, married 17 years, his wife is Nancy J age 41 born in Feb. 1859 and the mother of 5 children with 4 living. They have four children listed, Clarence E 14 born in June 1885, Sydney L 12 born April 1888, a daughter, Tula E 9, born April 1891, and another son, Augustus T 6 born in October 1893. All were listed as being born in Alabama. There is also a 23 year old widow by the name of Laura McElyea who is listed as the servant for the family living in the household.
In August of 1900 Nancy Weir died leaving John Allen Blair to raise four young children on his own. He had the help of their servant Laura who later became the second wife of John Allen Blair Weir. Their first child was born in 19o3. John and Nancy's four children now had a half sister, Mary B. another sister Edna Earl would be born in 1910.
That year on the 28th day of April in the precinct 9 Georgia, Limestone County, Alabama John A is 53 and his second wife Laura is 37. They say they have been married 9 years making them having married around 1901, a year or so after the death of his first wife Nancy. John says this is his second marriage but Laura doesn't say she has been married before but she was listed as a widow in the 1900 census. Their son Clarence Edward has left home now and Sidney is the oldest living at home at the age of 22, daughter Tula is 19, son Gus is 16 and John's first child with his second wife Laura ,little Mary is 6 years old. Laura must be expecting here as there was a second daughter born to them on August 4, 1910.
In 1920 the family still lives in the same community in Limestone County, Alabama. John is now 62 and his second wife Laura is now 44. All of John and Nancy's children are grown and gone from this home, his two girls born to Laura are now the only children they have living with them. Mary is 16 and Edna is 9.
By the time 1930 rolls around John is now 73 and Laura E is 55, their daughter Mary has left home and their youngest daughter Edna is now 19. Living two doors down is John's son Clarence Edward and his family.
On October 10, 1932 John's brother William Hoffman, whom he was very close to was ill and dying. John Allen was by his side and when he passed away John Allen left to inform the rest of the family of William's death. He was extremely upset about his brother dying and Within 45 minutes after William's death John Allen had suffered a major heat attack and fell dead while informing the family of his beloved brother's death.
On his death record it gives the name of his spouse as Laure Warrick. This must be the name of the man that left her to be listed as a widow on the 1900 census. Her maiden name was McEylea, because according to her death record her father was William McEylea.
On October 11, 1932 the Weir families buried not one but two of their own in the Wallace Cemetery...beloved brothers, growing up together, devoted to one another both in life and death as they died the same day less than one hour apart and were laid to rest in the same cemetery.
