When Augustus Theodore Weir was born on October 2, 1893, in Alabama, his father, John, was 36 and his mother, Nancy, was 34.
In the 1900 Limestone County, Alabama census taken on June 8th, Augustus Theodore, better known to the family as Guss was 6 years old and had 2 older brothers, Clarence E who was 14, Sydney L who was 12, and an older sister, Tula E 9. His mother must have been ill and maybe needed help around the house as there was a servant by the name of Laura McElyea, age 23, who was widowed living with the family. Later that year on August 1, 1900 Guss and his siblings became motherless as they laid their mother to rest a day or two after... a short time went by and his father married the servant, Laura McElyea sometime around 1901, as the 1910 census said they had been married 9 years. Guss soon had two younger sisters, Mary B born in 1903, and Edna Earl Weir who was born in 1910 when Guss was 16.
On June 5, 1917 he filled out a registration card for WWI in Limestone County, Alabama in the name of Augustus Theodore Weir but signed his name, not with a mark but as August Theordore Weir. He was 23 years old and lived at Ripley, Limestone County, Alabama. He was single and worked on the farm owned by Alex Brooks, his employer. He was tall, of medium build with blue eyes and dark brown hair.
In 1920 Guss is listed in the Limestone County, Alabama census as a 25 year old single male renting his own residence and a general laborer on a farm.
Sometime after the 1910 census where he lived in Limestone County, Alabama he either visited or moved to Wayne County, Tennessee where he met and married Lou Alice Dodd on September 2, 1922. In the 1930 census they still lived in Wayne County, Tennessee , Guss T. was 32 and Lou Alice was 27, they said they had married when Guss was 25 and his wife was 19, and now they had a son D.J. who was 6 years old.
According to the 1940 Wayne County, Tennesssee census the family still lived in Wayne County, Tennessee and he was now 46 years old, still in farming and Lou Alice was 37 and was also a farm laborer. Their son D.J. was now 16 and had a 4 year old sister named Lennie Senora.
When Guss T Weir died on August 26, 1970 in Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama he was 76 years old and left behind his loving wife of 48 years who would pass away 7 years later and two children, D.J. and Lennie to grieve his absence.
