When Sidney Leonard Weir was born on April 5, 1888, in Limestone, Alabama, his father, John, was 31 and his mother, Nancy J "Susan" Bates Weir, was 29.
June 8, 1900 he is 12 and living with his parents and siblings, Clarence Edward, Tula E 9, Augustus Theodore "Guss T" and a 23 year old servant named Laura McElyea. His mom, Nancy must have been sick as on August 1, 1900 she passed leaving Sidney L's dad with the help of the young servant Laura to raise their five children. Less than two years later, Sidney's father John and the servant Laura were married.
In 1910 the family is living in Limestone County, Alabama, John is 53 and Laura is 37, Clarence Edward is now gone from the house. Sidney is 22, Tula 19, Guss is 16 and now the family has grown by one as Sidney now has a baby sister Mary who is 6, born to his father and his second wife Laura. There is a gap in Sidney's life that can't be filled, 1920's census with him being counted hasn't been found.
He is a farmer and married Hettie Pearl Howard. They had five children during their marriage, one daughter, Mary B. died in infancy in 1920, not sure if it was the same day or what. There was Sidney, Mary B., Dessie, Nancy Frances, and Mamie H.
In 1930 he is now 41 and has a wife, Hettie Pearl is 38 and they are found living in Limestone County, Alabama with three children. Leonard Sidney was 13, Disa N "Dessie" 9 and Mamie H. 6 . They omitted Frances who would have been between Dessie and Mamie H. She isn't dead as she is counted with the family in the 1940 census.
October 10, 1932 he and his siblings said good bye to their dad, John Allen Blair Weir. His death was an untimely one as he was at his brother's side, William Hoffman, when he died. After his brother's death, he left to inform other family members of his brother's death and fell dead from a heart attack. They died within 45 minutes of each other. Sidney buried his father and his Uncle William on the same day in the same cemetery.
1940 finds the family living in Limestone County, Alabama, Sidney is 52, Hettie is 48, their son Sidney Leonard is 24 but beside his name is the initials ab. and his occupation is a tailor in the Army. The ab. meant that he is absent from the home at the time because he is in the Army. He was counted in 1940 in the Escambia, Florida census for Fort Barrancas Florida. he is 23, born in Limestone County, Alabama.
His sister Frances is 16 and living with the family is his sister Dessie 20 who is listed as married and her name is Dessie Southerland.
He died on July 5, 1946, in Alabama, at the age of 58. His record found in the Alabama Deaths and Burial Index says he was buried in the Curtis Camphel Cemetery, but the Tombstone Inscriptions of Limestone County, Alabama shows no cemetery by that name. He is buried in the Popular Creek Cemetery.
