Wayne graduated from Shawnee High School in 1923. He moved away from home and worked in the oil fields of Oklahoma, Texas and later, Venezuela, South America. After his return from Venezuela, he married Helen Schroeder on November 24, 1938.
He later went to Brazil to work for a U. S. Rubber development project for a short period of time. Upon his return from Brazil, he bought a 341 acre farm two miles out of Jourdanton, Texas. In 1945, he and Helen became the parents of an adopted daughter, Helen Sue Walton.
Wayne, at one time worked for the telephone company but had formed such an aversion for them that he never would have one installed while he was alive.
Wayne Newton Walton died on August 5, 1991 and is buried in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Jourdanton, Texas.
