Wayne James Cox, 83, the widower of Harriett Coker Cox, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 31, 2020 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Mr. Cox was born the son of Johnny Lorenza Cox and Mettie Godwin Cox on July 7, 1937 in Williamsburg County.

On April 5, 1959, Wayne married the love of his life, Harriett, and they shared 60 wonderful years together.

He was a retired employee with Oneita Knitting Mills and Newton’s General Store. He was also a TNI Vocational Education Instructor with Andrews High School for 15 years. In order to receive his certification as an instructor, Mr. Cox had to attend both the University of South Carolina and Clemson University. Being an avid Gamecock fan, he found it humorous having to attend Clemson University. He was a retired United States Army National Guard Veteran where he proudly served for 24 years. He was a member of the SC Jaycees Palmetto Corps - Andrews Jaycees. Because of his love for fishing and woodworking, Mr. Cox designed his own business, "Paddles by Wayne". He was a faithful member of the Andrews First Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served over the years as President of the Men’s Fellowship, choir member, and on the food committee to help raise money for the new building fund.

He is survived by:a special niece and caregiver, Cheryl F. Rogers (Ray) and their children, Allie and Rhett; two God sons, Keith Poe (Venus) and Kelley Poe (Melissa); 2 sister-in-laws, Patsy Cox and Louise Cox; and many loved nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by: his parents; his wife, Harriett; and his siblings, Hattie Cantley, Ralph Cox, Lucile Player, Maggie Cribb, the twins – Lorenza Cox and Lola Bell Cox, Renelda “Shorty” Cox, and his twin brother, Warren Cox.

The Cox family would like to send a special "Thank You" to Wanda Staggers for her friendship, love and support during this journey.

A Home Going Celebration with Military Honors will be 10AM, Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Andrews First Pentecostal Holiness Church directed by McKenzie Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Dean Baber and Rev. Paul Miles. The Cox family will receive family and friends immediately after the service.
