Ray Powell Haynes of King William, VA died peacefully on Friday, December 17, 2010. Ray was a World War II U.S. Air Force Veteran. He attended Bramwell High School Class of 1938, Concord College, graduated from West Virginia Tech Class of 1946 and received a Master's Degree from William and Mary in 1954. He taught industrial arts, history and coached basketball in West Point, VA from 1946 to 1952. He was principal of King William High School from 1952 to 1956. He was a distinguished salesman while living in Roanoke, VA and Parma, OH from 1956 to 1980, then he retired to live in King William, VA.

He was born in Freeman, WV on October 16, 1920 to the late Elisha Keen Haynes (1886-1971) and Abbie Virginia Powell-Haynes (1888-1974). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Reba Lucille Haynes (1908-1997) and Virginia Dare Haynes-Newberry (1931-Deceased); and his brothers, Russell Kenneth Haynes (1906-1906), Guy Haynes (Deceased), Lewis Clay Haynes (1911-2007), Elisha "Paul" Haynes (1916-2006), Dr. Ralph E. Haynes (Deceased), and Dr. Ronald "Ronny" L. Haynes DDS (1931-2010).

He is survived by loving and devoted wife, Marie Bird-Haynes of Amonate, VA; and loving sister, Marjorie Haynes-Rakestraw (1927-2012) of OH; his daughters, Donna Haynes-Kelly of NC, and Beverly Haynes-Higgins & husband G.A. Higgins of VA; grandchildren, Kristina Noll & husband Joe Noll of OH, and Kimberly Green of NC, Ray Higgins of VA and Grant Higgins of VA; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Noll & Kelly Noll of OH and BreAnna Higgins & Gage Higgins of VA; and many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families.
