Lewis Clay Haynes, 96, of Bluefield, VA and formerly of Bramwell died Monday December 10, 2007 in Bluefield, VA. Mr. Haynes was a World War II veteran having served with The United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, KY and received a masters degree from Duke University, Durham, NC. He began his career as a teacher and had a distinguished 34-year career with the Internal Revenue Service. An avid golfer, he was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed life, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was born on August 3, 1911 in Bramwell, WV to the late Elisha Keen Haynes Jr. (1886-1971) and Abbie Virginia Powell-Haynes (1888-1974). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Spoon-Haynes (1918-2003); sisters, Reba Lucille Haynes (1908-1997) and Virginia Dare Haynes-Newberry (1931-Deceased); brothers, Russell Kenneth Haynes (1906-1906), Guy Haynes (Deceased), Dr. Ralph E. Haynes (Deceased) and Elisha "Paul" Haynes (1916-2006).

He is survived by three daughters, Becky Haynes-Richardson of Marietta, GA, Kay Haynes-Sudduth & husband Mike Sudduth of Bluefield, WV, and Abbie Haynes-Bailey & husband Scott Bailey of Huntersville, NC; six grandchildren, Suzanne Raxter of Marietta, GA, Elizabeth Sudduth and Clay Sudduth of Bluefield, WV, Alex Bailey, Sara Bailey and Peyton Bailey of Huntersville, NC; a great grandson, Joshua Raxter of Marietta, GA; and a sister Marjorie H. Haynes-Rakestraw (1927-2012) of Maumee, OH and two brothers, Ray Powell Haynes (1920-2010) & wife Marie Bird-Haynes of King William, VA and Dr. Ronald "Ronny" L. Haynes DDS (1931-2010) & wife Susan Frazier-Haynes of Frazier Bottom, WV; a sister-in-law, Sara Spoon of Burlington, NC; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to loving brother Dr. Ronald Haynes, nieces Elaine, Heather, Lou and Sydney Haynes for all their love and care. The family will share services and interment privately.
