A veteran of the Civil War, Theophilus Craver, a resident of Poweshiek County enlisted as a private, at age 18, on January 4, 1864. He was mustered into Company E, 4th Iowa Cavalry on January 4, 1864. He fought his first battle at Guntown. He was mustered out on August 8, 1865 in Atlanta, Georgia.
