MARY ANN SMITH OLSEN, (or Nan as most knew her by), age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2020 in her residence at the Good Samaritan Lee Crest seniors living centre in Cardston, Alberta.

She was born to loving parents, Thomas Archie Smith and Myrtle Wood on a stormy May 19th day in 1927 in Cardston. She was the second of seven children and is the last to survive.

Her life was blessed when she met and married her husband and sweetheart, Gordon Vance Olsen, on August 18, 1950. Their lives were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple, in Idaho and together they had five children, whom they loved and adored. Her loving husband, Gordon, preceded her in death in November of 1959.

Mary Ann lived faithful to her husband to the end and lived her life with the bright hope of seeing and being with him again one day. As a family, we are sure that the long awaited, joyous reunion has taken place.

Mary Ann lived a life of steadfast devotion to her family, faith and belief in Jesus Christ as she served and loved them. She taught through her example and lived what she taught. She always stood up for what was right, even when it wasn’t popular.

After receiving her teaching certificate, she began her lifelong journey of learning and study. She was blessed with many gifts and talents, which she shared willingly. There were few moments when she wasn’t either painting beautiful watercolor pictures, writing, reading, studying, sewing, singing, playing the piano, crocheting, tatting, needlepoint, hammering, welding or planting, to name a few. Her hands were rarely still. Growing up on a farm she learned the importance of work and gained an appreciation for the beauty of God’s creations. All of these things and more depict the wonderful, faithful qualities of a life well lived.

Mary Ann is survived by her children Laura (Wilf) Blum of Utah, Jesse (Lori) Olsen of Cardston, Dena Hyde of Calgary, Diane Garner of Lethbridge, and Susan (Terry) Leonard of Edmonton. She has 22 grandchildren and 65 great grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Temple Street Chapel on Saturday, January 25th, at 11:00 a.m., with Bishop Eric Brooks officiating.
Friends may meet the family at the Church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service. Interment to follow in the Cardston Cemetery.

Thank you to all of the kind and helpful people at Lee Crest who cared for our sweet mother, also to Dr. Low for providing loving and professional care. Thanks to all the family and friends who supported, visited and loved her so generously. Thank you also to Legacy Funeral Home for the personal and respectful care which they provided.
