Beloved Baptist Minister Dies
The Rev. Albert P. Wells, age 70. retired Baptist minister, died Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson after an extended illness. He has resided at 217 Ellis Ave. in Jackson for the past six years.
Prior to his entering the ministry, he was a very talented musical instructor and singer. He was a graduate of the Clarke Memorial' College in Newton.
He has served as minister to a number of churches in South Mississippi and Alabama, his last church before going into retirement being the Gum Grove Baptist Church in Pike County.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Addie Kennedy Wells, Jackson; seven sons: O.A., O.J., and V.M. Wells, all of Jackson. Rev. Zena Wells, Baton Rouge, U. S. Wells Shubuta, Lt. Herman Douglas Wells Tulsa Okla., and Glen Wells, Heidelberg; four daughters: Mrs. M. H. Pope, Jackson, Mrs. Alton Gate-wood, Columbia; Mrs. Ernest Albritton, Mobile, Alabama, and Mrs. Charles Weatherford, Baton Rouge; two brothers: Rev. Clifton Wells, Oak Grove, La. and Chester Wells, New Orleans; two sisters: Mrs. Willie Mott, Newton and Mrs. Effie Craft, Mendenhall; 39 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Van Winkle Baptist Church at 11 o'clock Thursday morning with the Rev. Herman Milner presiding. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
The body will lie in state at the Baldwin Funeral Home until the hour of the services.
