Born in Quinton, he was the son of Frank and Myrtle (Phipps) Manning. He married Bette Harris on July 9, 1946 in Antioch, California. He started working as a painting contractor and at the Army Ammunition Plant as a painter. He was also a Pentecostal minister at the North Mount Homa Church and traveled throughout the county. His ministry was spread on KNED radio station for numerous years. A resident of McAlester, he died at the age of 84 at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Survivors include the mother of his children, Bette June Logsdon, of McAlester; a son, Michael Alwyn Manning, of McAlester; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Anne and Jimmy Painter, of McAlester; four grandchildren, Julie Powell, of McAlester, Leslie Truly, of McAlester, Jody Manning, of Bristow, and Rebecca Cope, Denver. Also, seven great-grandchildren, Jay McLemore, Sarabeth Powell, Jared McLemore, Madison Frieseneggar, Colton Powell and Joesef and Andrew Cope; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Francis Adams, of McAlester, Vonetta and Donald Fry, of Tulsa, Loveta and Lynell Sloan, of Sulphur, Oleta Harrison, of McAlester, and Mary and Bob Manos, of McAlester; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Sharon Manning, of McAlester, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gladys Pryor and Alene King; three brothers, Joe Manning, Benny Manning and Jerry Manning, and a very special daughter-in-law, Beth Manning. Funeral services will be a 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be at Tannehill Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
