Charles graduated from McAlester High School and then attended Eastern Oklahoma State College. He married Sharon Bolding on Sept. 8, 1958, in Stigler. He joined the United States Navy, serving aboard ship during Viet Nam, retiring in 1982 as chief petty officer. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098, Masonic Lodge and Shriner's. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He passed away at his home in McAlester at the age of 68. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Manning, of the home; daughter, Patricia Manning, of McAlester; son, Charles Phillip Manning, of McAlester; granddaughters, Natalie Manning and Hazel Manning, both of McAlester. Also, sisters, Mary Manos and husband, Bobby, of McAlester, Oleta Harrison, of McAlester, Francis Adams, of McAlester, Vonita Frye, of Tulsa, and Lovita Sloan, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtle Manning; son, Chris Lynn Manning; brothers, Jerry Manning, Benny Manning, Joe Manning and Elmer "Bud" Manning, and sisters, Alene King and Gladys Pryor. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Dr. James Crowson officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098.
