James Robert Tolar was born January 28, 1889 in Dillon County, South Carolina, one of ten children of James Murchison "Merk" Tolar and Annie Laurie King Tolar. Robert married Madge Nola “Madgie” Butler Tolar, and they were the parents of Mary Thelma Tolar Boyer and Roberta V. Tolar. The Tolars moved to Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland, and Robert died there on Memorial Day, May 30, 1963 at age 74. He is buried next to his wife Madge in the Meadowridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland.
