William "Willie" Tolar was born in April of 1898 in Dillon County, South Carolina, one of ten children of James Murchison "Merk" Tolar and Annie Laurie King Tolar. Willie died on November 13, 1913 in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina after surgery for appendicitis and is buried near his father and some of his siblings at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Dillon County.

The Dillon Herald had this to say about Willie:

"Willie Tolar, the 16 year old son of Mr. James Tolar, died, at Highsmith’s Hospital in Fayetteville Tuesday afternoon, Following an operation for appendicitis last Monday. Willie had been ill for a week and was taken to the hospital Sunday, although his condition was critical when he was carried away. The operation was performed Monday, but he never rallied from the shock. He was a bright young boy and his untimely death is deeply regretted. He was formerly in the employ of the Dillon Plumbing Co., leaving there to accept a position at Evan’s Pharmacy. At the time of his death he was in the employ of Mr. W F R Johnson. The body arrived in Dillon Tuesday evening and the Internment was made at Pleasant Grove yesterday."

I hope someone will add a photo of Willie. Thanks to Wanda E. Case for much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions. If a closer relative than I would like to manage this burial site, please let me know.
