FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TUESDAY FOR JAMES HOLFELTZ

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Glines for James Holfeltz, 71, who died in Salt Lake City, January 3 after a long illness. The services were conducted under the direction of the Glines LDS Ward bishopric with counselor, Stephen C. Perry in charge.

The first song, "School Thy Feelings," Oh My Brother," was sung by a male quartet composed of Leslie Thacker, Duane Soderquist, Ralph Walker and Aubra Hodgkinson, accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Manwaring. The opening prayer was given by Martin Fletcher. The quartet then sang, "Beyond the Sunset," with Duane Soderquist reading the poem.

Speakers were Bishop John B. Eaton and Lamond Tullis, with closing remarks by Mr. Perry.

The closing song, "Shall We Meet Beyond the River" was sung by the quartet and Joseph Price offered the benediction.

Prelude and postlude music was played by Mrs. Harold Cook. Pallbearers were the five sons of Mr. Holfeltz: Lamont, Darrell, William, Grant and Jay and his son-in-law, Albert Freestone.

Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Vernal Mortuary. The grave was dedicated by Stephen Perry.

James Holfeltz was born September 5, 1880 at Midway, Utah, a son of John and Rachel Wilson Holfeltz. The family moved to Arcadia and then to Vernal where he resided, until he moved to Salt Lake City a few months ago.

On May 26, 1904, he married Emma Henry in Vernal, Utah and three daughters, all of whom are still living.

They are Lamont Holfeltz, Salt Lake City; Darrell Holfeltz, Murray; Glen Holfeltz, Richmond, California; William Holfeltz and Grant Holfeltz, of Vernal; Mrs. Twila Jackson and Mrs. Nelda Dunn of Salt Lake City and Mrs. May Freestone, of Vernal. His first wife died in 1918.

On February 4, 1924, he married Mrs. Effie Warby Potter. They had two sons, Jay Holfeltz and Duane Holfeltz, of Salt Lake City and four daughters, Mrs. Bea Saccomanno and Mrs. Donna Lee Poplin of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Glenda Ray Brown of Vernal and Miss Leah Holfeltz of Sacramento, California. He also raised two step-daughters, Mrs. Mary Potter Dickson and Mrs. Wilma Potter Smith.

In addition to his widow and children, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hair ad Mrs. Janet O'Driscoll of Salt Lake City; 35 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Mr. Holfeltz was a farmer on his property in Glines Ward. At the time of his death he was an elder in the LDS Church.

Here from out-of-town for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Lamont Holfeltz, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Saccomanno, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Holfeltz, Mrs. Twila Jackson, Mrs. Don Poplin and Mrs. Janet O'Drscoll, all of Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Holfeltz, Murray and Mrs. Evan Perry and Mrs. Lawrence Stevens of Rangely, Colorado.

Funeral services for James T. Holfeltz, 71, 137 Lincoln St., will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Glines Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Vernal, by Ernest Johnson, bishop.

Friends may call at 2350 E. 13th South, Salt Lake City, Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. and at the chapel in Vernal Tuesday prior to services.

Burial will be in Vernal Memorial Park.

A former resident of Vernal, Duchesne County, Mr. Holfeltz died Thursday in a Salt Lake rest home of causes incident to age.
