Dewayne "Bud" Sheaffer, 84, of Bethel Township, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Born Sept. 18, 1933, in Mateer, he was the son of the late Henry and Ida Boyer Elder. Dewayne had been employed by Wean United in Vandergrift and for Knepshield Excavating. A member of Cochran's Mills Methodist Church, he enjoyed hunting, music and had played guitar with the band Bud Shannon and the Country Gentlemen. Survivors include his son, John Paul Sheaffer (Valerie Young), of Bethel Township; four grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda) Sheaffer, Travis Sheaffer, Tanya (Robert) Kirkwood and Jessica Sheaffer; a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter on the way; and his companion and caregiver, Debbie Wright, of Parks Township. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Dewayne Schaeffer; four brothers, Lisle, William, Edward and Donald Sheaffer; and six sisters, Virginia Christy, Glennie Mansfield, Mabel Lukehart, Pearl Beck, Esther Glass and Lue Patterson.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the DUNMIRE-KERR AND ROWE FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Larry Krause officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
