Darrel Dean Berndt passed away on November 28, 2012 at his home in Dalworthington Gardens, Texas. He was born on February 2, 1932 in Morgan County ,Illinois. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean War. During this time he served as a Sonar Man on submarines and as an instructor. After leaving the Navy, he moved to Dallas, Texas and worked for Texas Instruments. It was during this time he met and married his future wife, Theresa. They married in 1964 and eventually settled in Arlington, Texas where they raised three children. He later worked for Teccor and E-Systems as a Quality Control Engineer. He retired from E-Systems in 1998 and played a key figure in raising his two granddaughters, Olivia and Meghan. He was a voracious reader and student of life who enjoyed spending time with those whom he loved best in the world. His light and humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a good man. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Theresa, his three children, Madison, Vincent, and Cristen, his daughter in law, Marie, his three grandchildren, Ryan, Olivia, and Meghan, and his granddaughter-in-law, Tracie. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister, Norma, and her children, Gerald and Kathy and their families, and his sister-in-law, Peggy, and her children, Donald, Kelly, and Michelle and their families. A Memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday December 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m with Military Honors at the Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, Texas with Fr. Jeffrey Stubbs officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the Disabled American Veteran’s Association or the Arlington Public Library Foundation.
