"Jerry" Berndt of Waverly dies; funeral Sunday

Waverly - Leonard (Jerry) Berndt, 74, died at St. John's Hospital in Springfield at 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.
He was born Nov. 20, 1908, near New Berlin, a son of John and Augusta Millhaus Berndt.
He married Ella Baggerly in 1927, and she survives with one daughter, Mrs. Norma Jean Lacey of Jacksonville, three sons, Lawrence and Donald, both of Waverly, and Darrell Dean of Arlington, Tex., one sister, Lena Hood of Clinton, Iowa, nine grand, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded by a brother and four sisters.
He was a butcher at the Waverly Locker Plant for several years.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly with burial in Waverly Cemetery.
