He retired in 1968 as Amarillo manager for Tandy Leather Company after 22 years. A native of the Jean community, near Graham, Texas. Mr. Allen attended North Texas State University and Sul Ross State College before entering the U.S. Navy. He taught one year and was a principal for one year as well as a basketball coach. His interest in leatherwork took him to Plainview where he worked in a boot shop. The owner moved the operation to Amarillo a years later. Allen moved with him. In 1946, he joined the Tandy Corporation.
Mr. Allen and his wife, Ireta, have two sons - David Allen and Sam Allen.
