Erba May Townsend Copeland, 77, died on May 4 1985 in Peru, Miami County, Indiana from a myocardial infarction (heart attack) and coronary artery disease. She was born November 9, 1907 to Charles Marion Townsend and Rosetta May Chambers Townsend in Peru, Miami County, Indiana. She had nine brothers and sisters: William Dewey Townsend (1898-1965), Harry Edward Townsend (1900-1977), Mabel M. Townsend Bell (1903-?), Lola Townsend Banks Babcoke (1905-1973), James Franklin Townsend (1910-1993), Baby Townsend (1910-?), Ama 'Amy' Townsend Sutton (1915-1995), and Darrell K. Townsend 1917-1997.

She married Linal E. Copeland on August 21, 1924 at the age of 17. To this union, they had seven children: Leon Eldon Copeland, Rosalie Copeland, Lois Copeland, Alice Copeland, Wilma Copeland, Beatrice Copeland, and Mitchell Jay Copeland

Surviving are four daughters: Alice Ashlock, Peru, Lois Clayton, South Bend, Wilma Yarbrough, Fort Wayne, and Beatrice Dillman, Churubusco; two sons, Leon, Peru, and Mitchel, Kokomo; one sister, Amy Sutton, Peru; three brothers, Darrell, James, and Arthur Townsend, all of Peru; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great grand children. A daughter, Rosalie Galbraith, died March 29, 1985. Two sisters and three brothers are also deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Copeland was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Shaner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
