She was a 1934 graduate of Fremont Ross High School where she participated in girls basketball and swam. Rita majored in English at Mary Manse College in Toledo Ohio. After 2 years, during the depression, Rita quit college to become a medical assistant in
the office of Carl Wolf, MD of Fremont.
Rita married Norbert U. Koch on Feb. 2, 1943 at St. Ann's Church. Rita and Norbert were married 57 years. They had 5 children. Rita is survived by her
children: Marianne Koch Stillner, Robert, Charles, Margaret Koch Decker and Kathleen Koch and brother William Rimelspach. She has 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
For many years Rita volunteered at Memorial Hospital and the Hayes Presidential Center. She was an original member of the Sun and Shade Garden Club.
Rita held memberships in both St. Ann's and St. Joseph Catholic Churches. She belonged to the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, the St. Joseph's Booster Club, and the church choir.
Since high school Rita had been an avid bridge player, belonging to various groups around town. She was a nine hole golfer, often winning tournaments, and a member of the Fremont Country Club from 1949 to 2008. From 1987 to 2008, Rita was a board member of the Elder College at Terra Community College, where she routinely took classes in writing and attended the college noon time exercise classes.
Visitation will take place from 5-8P.M. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, where Vigil Services will begin at 7:30P.m. A Mass of Resurrection will begin at Noon on Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Elder College Foundation at Terra Community College or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
