Sister Francis Assisi Rimelspach, OSU

TOLEDO: Sister Francis Assisi Rimelspach, the former Gertrude Rose Rimelspach, 94, died on Saturday, at the Ursuline Center, 4035 Indian Road, Toledo. She entered the Toledo Ursulines from St. Ann Parish, Fremont, OH, on September 12, 1938 and professed her final vows on August 16, 1944.

After graduating from Fremont Ross High School, she attended Mary Manse College and received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. She did graduate work in Speech and Drama at Catholic University of America and then received a Master's degree from Notre Dame University.

As an educator, Sister Francis Assisi taught in the Toledo Diocesan schools of Rosary Cathedral, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Angela Hall and St. Charles in Toledo and at St. Gerard in Lima. She taught Speech at St. Ursula Academy and Mary Manse College. In 1974 she returned to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish as a teacher-aide and assisted in the school Library.

She began a pastoral ministry in the parish and visited parishioners who were home-bound as well as those in nursing homes and hospitals. When she retired in 1993, she moved to the Ursuline Center where she continued her pastoral work with her Ursuline Sisters and when possible at Sunset House.

Sister Francis was a member of the Toledo Diocesan Assembly and the Sisters' Council.

Sister Francis Assisi was preceded in death by her parents, Filbert and Margaret Rimelspach; her brothers, Robert and Norbert and her sister, Mary Rimelspach.

She is survived by sisters, Mrs. Rita Koch of Fremont, Mrs. Ruth Harrison of Toledo and brother, William, of Fremont; many nieces and nephews and her Ursuline Community.

Visitation will be at the Ursuline Center, 4035 Indian Road after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 with the Vigil Service in the Ursuline Center chapel at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday. The funeral liturgy will take place on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Ursuline Center Chapel. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
