Born May 26, 1933 in Carroll County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Millard and Jennie Irene Rice Wachter. He was the husband of Dorothy Moser Wachter, his wife of 60 years.
Mr. Wachter was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren. He was formerly employed with Beckley's Motel, Frederick for more than 50 years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and attending auctions.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four daughters, Corie Wachter of New Midway, Charlotte Houck and husband, Randy of Detour, Annie Wachter of Frederick, and Jennifer Peregoy and husband, Norman of New Midway; grandchildren, Daniel Houck and wife Candace, Ryan Houck and wife Amanda, Ashley Harmon, and Dylan Peregoy; three great-grandsons, Devyn, Dahltyn and Dakotah Houck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family, being predeceased by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro on Monday, May 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Michelle Carlson, pastor of Mt. Zion "Haugh's" Lutheran Church, Ladiesburg, officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Woodsboro.
