CLEMENTENA "Clementine" ZIRCHER (aka Zurcher/Zirger) was the daughter of Ignatius/Ignatz Zircher and Mary Magdelena (aka Marie Madeleine) Lehmann who immigrated from France. Clementena was baptized 30 December 1829 in Schirrhein, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France.

The family immigrated about 1838 to the United States. They joined other family members who had already immigrated from France to Ohio. They may have settled briefly in Stark County, Ohio where some of the Lehmann family had settled for a time. However, by 1840 Marie Madeleine's brother, Michel/Michael Lehmann and his family had moved from Stark County, Ohio to McLean Township, Shelby County, Ohio. This was just outside of Ft. Loramie (aka Berlin in those early years). Marie Madeleine's brother, Nicolas/Nicholas Lehmann and his family had moved to Seneca County, Ohio and onto Wyandot County, Ohio.

In or near Ft. Loramie, Ignatz & Mary Magdelena (Lehmann) Zircher settled with their family consisting of these known children: Clementine, Ludwig (Lewis/Louis), Francis, and Carolina.

A marriage license (#3-308) was issued 22 May 1852 in Shelby County, Ohio to "Peter Courtade" and "Glementhine Zircher," but records indicate their was no "Return" to signify that the marriage took place in Shelby County.
(Source: Adams & Mozley, Marriage Records of Shelby Co,. OH, Vol. 1)

Peter was a widower with four children: Mary Ann, Margaret, Lawrence/Lorenzo, and Peter D. Courtad. It is speculated by this researcher that perhaps Clementena was the caregiver for the family after his first wife's death, so her residence was already established in Seneca County where they apparently married after obtaining their marriage license in Shelby County. The marriage took place on 1 June 1852 in Seneca County, Ohio instead of Shelby County, Ohio where her parents lived and died.

Peter and Clementena then had nine more children. However, only eight are known: John, Joseph, Lewis, Adam, Elizabeth Magdelena, August J., Martin J., and Magdelena "Lanie" Courtad.

Peter Courtad died in 1891, after which Clementine resided in 1900 with her son Martin Courtad. She died in 1907 in Wyandot County, Ohio. She was laid to rest at the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio.
