92, of New Carlisle, Ohio passed away Friday, November 26, 2010. He was born July 14, 1918, in Clark County, Ohio, the son of the late Harry and Ada (Hoke) Steele.
He was raised on various farms in Bethel and Pike townships and, after marrying Esther, settled on a farm near Dialton.
In addition to farming his whole life, he also had a 30-year career in education. He is most remembered as principal of Northwestern Junior High School.
He was a life long member of the New Carlisle Missionary Church where he served as SS teacher, SS superintendent, church treasurer, and as a member of various committees. On the district level of the Missionary Church he was instrumental in the formation of the Ohio Missionary Loans and Investments program. also, he compiled a history of the Ohio District of the Missionary Church.
He had a driving interest in history (genealogy) and rocks and minerals which lead to his travels in all 50 states, Canada, Israel, Greece, Italy, Brazil, Scotland, England and Ireland.
Survivors include three children, Philip (Mary) Steele, Ellen Smith and Ray (Nancy) Steele, all of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Doug (Patricia) Steele, Jeff (Beth) Smith, Janet (Kevin) Elliott, Adam (Jessica Steele), Ben (Bethany) Smith, Julie (Manolo) Cuy Castellanos, and Nathan (Cindy) Steele; eleven great grandchildren, Jasmine Smith, Jordan Smith, Jayden Elliott, Kayla Smith, Carter Smith, Leah Elliott, Mackinzie Steele, Grace Smith, Abby and Ella Steele and Dylan Cuy Castellanos; step great grandchildren, Montanna, Montgommery and Masonn Hayslip; brothers, Arthur (Marjorie) Steele and Wilbert (Jessie) Steele, and a sister, Alma Gracy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Esther Steele in 2005; brothers, Howard, Harley and J. A. Steele and a sister, Thelma Streber.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2010 in the Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral home, New Carlisle, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the New Carlisle Missionary Church with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in New Carlisle Cemetery.
