Mattie Weaver, daughter of John Marion Weaver and Elizabeth Lucivy Bennett, was born in Fairfield, Freestone Co., TX on 12 January 1895. She married Wirt Knox Bonner on 1 October 1913 at Fairfield. Wirt rebuilt his parents home for his new bride and they lived in it for the rest of their married lives. Wirt's widowed mother made her home with them as did his brother Millen before his marriage. Mattie was somewhat of a go-getter and known for her determination and her thrift. Mattie was a member of Harmony ARP Church and sang in the choir. After Wirt's death, she continued to live in their home and to run the farm as long as she was able. In her later years she moved to Fairfield where she died on 27 November 1984. Mattie and Wirt had 5 children: Ruth Elizabeth; John Weldon; Vivian; Hazel; Walter Wirt.
