"WELL KNOWN FREESTONE COUNTY MAN LOSES LIFE IN CAR ACCIDENT
W.A. Bonner, 74, of Stewards Mill, died at 8 o'clock Thursday night in the P. and S. Hospital at Corsicana as the result of injuries received in a car accident between Corsicana and Streetman early Thursday morning.
Others injured in the accident were Miss Hazel Bonner, 18, fractured nose; Weldon Bonner, 15, bruises and lacerations; Norman Betts, Negro, broken arm and fractured pelvis; Miss Vivian Bonner, in the car, escaped injury.
The party was on its way to Corsicana to take a train for Oklahoma to visit Mr. Bonner's sister, Mrs. John Thornton. A car had collided with a truck trailer, and when the Bonner car was approaching, occupants of the truck signalled them to stop in order to avoid another collision. It is said that the driver of the Bonner car thought the signal was a holdup, and accelerated his speed, and the crash resulted.
Funeral services were held at Stewards Mill Saturday by Reverend Walter Simpson, burial following in the Bonner burial ground, directed by Steward & Burleson.
Mr. Bonner had been a life long resident of the Stewards Mill section. He had never married, and is survived by a brother, J.O. Bonner of Mexia; two sisters, Mrs. J.C. Thornton of Norman, Okla., and Miss Martha Bonner, also of Norman. Mr. Bonner had many other relatives, and a host of friends.
Other parties injured in the accident are reported recovering."
