Navy and received four bars and three stars for service in the Pacific Theater. He married Mary Kathryn McAdams on 3 April 1948. They made their home in Teague, Freestone Co., TX where Walter manged the Teague Lumberyard. Walter and Mary were parents of three children: Vicky Margo; Danny Weldon; Tambra Lee. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Presbyterian Church. Walter Wirt Bonner died in Teague, Freestone Co., TX on 26 August 1989.
