Death this morning [December 3, 1924] summoned one of the county's most noble and well known women when Mrs. Rosetta [Roseltha] Vogler, 80 wife of Lewis A. Vogler, passed away at the family home in Hope, death being due to cerebral anaemia and following a three week's illness. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Hope Moravian church with the Rev. H. Henkelmann, pastor of the church officiating. Burial in the Hope Moravian cemetery.
Of Pioneer Stock
Mrs. Vogler, having spent all of her life in the county and having throughout her life, taken great interest in many civic movements, was regarded by the people who knew her as a most remarkable woman, one with an unusually strong personality and was looked upon as a leader among women. She was born and reared in Hawcreek township and was the daughter of Marshall and Ellen McEwen Lee, pioneers of the county and both of whom passed away many years ago. She spent her entire life time in the neighborhood where she was born and from an early age she was an active worker in the Hope Moravian Church.
Mrs. Vogler was progressive in her ideas of church work and often was the instigator of movements for the betterment of the church and its Bible school. She was active in charity work and her kindness has extended into many homes throughout the county. Although greatly interested in such activities, she ever was the ideal mother and her first thought and interest was with her home and family to which she was greatly devoted.
First Death in 80 Years
On December 25, 1862, Mrs. Vogler was united in marriage to Mr. Vogler and had she lived until Christmas day of this year the couple would have celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary, an event to which she was looking forward to with much interest. Mrs. Vogler throughout her life had enjoyed remarkably good health and not until about three weeks ago was she taken ill, suffering from an affliction to her head. Although her condition was regarded very grave death was not wholly expected and came as a sad shock to the family this morning at about 5 o'clock.
Mr. and Mrs. Vogler were the parents of seven children, one of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Vogler's death is the first in the family for more than fifty years. Besides her husband, surviving are the six children, Miss Lucy Vogler, at home; William Vogler, of Indianapolis; Mrs. W. P. Kennedy, of Liberty, Ind.; Mrs. Lewis Homsher, of Franklin, and Mrs. Edward Miller, of Portland, Ore., and L. M. Vogler, who lives on the home farm. There are also ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
