OBIT:

L. Marshall Vogler, 90-year-old Hope area farming who was named Bartholomew County Senior Citizen for 1972, died at 9:55 a.m. today at Bartholomew County Hospital where he was admitted July 13.

The former national and international Corn King resided on Hope Route 2. Funeral arrangements are pending at Norman Funeral Home at Hope.

Vogler received the Senior Citizen Award in March of this year, nine years after the same honor went to his wife, Aneta. Mrs. Vogler was listed in fair condition today at Bartholomew County Hospital where she was admitted at 9 p.m., Friday.

Born January 5, 1883, Vogler remained active in supervising operations of his farm, often driving a tractor to help at planting time and assisting with livestock on the farm.

He had specialized in the growing of corn through Purdue University and had won Corn King honors in 1913, 1923, and 1924 and the international title in 1925 and 1929.

He served as state chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee from 1936 until 1951. At an open house in January honoring his 90th birthday, Vogler commented that he had been in the process of retiring since stepping down from the chairmanship.
