End Comes After Long Illness; Funeral Services on Friday Afternoon
An illness of many months duration claimed Mrs. Gertrude M. Tanner, beloved resident of Napa, at the home of her son at 327 Brown Street last evening.
Death came at 9:55 o'clock to climax an extended period of ill health during which Mrs. Tanner had patiently borne her suffering.
Mrs. Tanner was born in the Isle of St. Helena and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Chalmers, pioneer resident of Napa. Her father was prominently identified here as a nurseryman for many years.
Coming to California 58 years ago, Mrs. Tanner had spent the greater part of that time in this community. Here she cultivated a wide circle of friends who will receive word of her passing with deepest regret.
The deceased was a member of Silver Spray Chapter of Eastern Star.
Left to morn her passing are her three sons, George H., of Napa; and Harold J. and Ralph A. Tanner of San Francisco. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Will Davis, Mrs. Frank McReynolds of Napa, and Mrs. Fred Barnewitz of Vallejo, and a brother, Alfred Chalmers of Mendocino City. She was the grand-mother of Bobby and Betty Lou Tanner of Napa and Donald Tanner of San Francisco.
The remains are at the Treadway Undertaking Parlors where services will be held at two o'clock Friday afternoon. The commitment service will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland.
