DIED THIS MORNING
Ms. Jessie Deborah Chalmers succumbs
After Illness of Long Duration.
Mrs. Jessie Deborah Chalmers, beloved widow of the late John H. Chalmers, was summoned by death at 7:20 o’clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank McReynolds, 1340 D. St.
For the last several years Mrs. Chalmers health had been declining due to her advanced years. She was stricken suddenly ill at one o’clock this morning, sinking rapidly until the end came peacefully a few hours later.
Deceased was a native of the island of St. Helena, which is a British possession located just off the African coast. She was 83 years and nine months of age.
Fifty-eight years ago Mrs. Chalmers came to the United State with her husband, the couple remaining a short time in San Francisco before settling in Vallejo and finally in Napa.
During her 56 years in Napa, Mrs. Chalmers cultivated many friendships and news of her passing will be learned with utmost regret. She was a member of Silver Spray Chapter of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Chalmers’ death followed almost within a year of that of her husband. Mr. Chalmers was a pioneer landscape gardener of California, and was responsible for planing the Napa State Hospital grounds and Fuller Park in Napa. He passed away on May 20th 1930.
The children who survive Mrs. Chalmers are; Mrs. Frank McReynolds, Mrs. Gertrude Tanner, Mrs. William Davis, all of Napa: Mrs. Mary Barnewitz of Vallejo and Alfred Chalmers of Mendocino City. There are also 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The remains are at the Treadway Chapel where funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at one o’clock.
