Gifford "Harlan" was born July 10, 1933 the son of Gifford Harwood and Leona (Lindell) Duncan in Vasa Township.

Harlan was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1954 until November of 1962.

He married the former Dixie Lee Tannahill on September 18, 1957 in Newton, IA. He worked for H&H Silo Company, building silos and driving truck.

He also worked for Cemstone driving a cement truck. He loved hunting, bowling, and camping, spending time with his family and just sitting outside.

Harlan is lovingly survived by his children Daniel Dewayne of Hutchinson, Larry (Roxanne) of Cannon Falls, Nancy Lee (Bob) Randolph of Faribault, Laura Marie (James) Klassen of Albert Lea and Mary Maxine (Jackie) Couch, of Independence, MO; his grandchildren Daniel, Ricky, Robert Duncan, Melissa (Jamen) Behr, Cory, Jennifer, James Jr. and Andrew Klassen, Cassandra, Christine, Cynthia and William Duncan, Justin Taube, Joshua, Shauna and Shirley Couch; great grandchildren Katarina and Avery Behr, Amy and Nathiel Chaplain and one due any day; also by siblings Archie (Marie) Duncan of Cannon Falls, Clair Duncan of Red Wing, Norma (Bob) Taylor of Northfield, Marcelyn (Joe) Jacobson of Kenyon and Lois (Tim) Stenerson of Red Wing.

Also by his mother-in-law Hazel (Walt) Maines of Clinton, IA and brother-in-law Curtis (Missy) Tannahill of Moline, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dixie Lee in December of 1994, and his granddaughter Amy Marie Klassen in June of 1983.
