Marcelyn Jacobson, 78, of rural Nerstrand, died suddenly Thursday, May 9, 2013 at her home.
Marcelyn was born July 3, 1934 in Cannon Falls, Minnesota the daughter of Gifford and Leona (Lindell) Duncan. She was baptized into faith on August 26, 1934 at Vasa Lutheran Church and later confirmed her faith at the age of 14 at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church. Marcelyn attended school in Cannon Falls graduating in 1952. She worked various jobs including working for the Security State Bank in Cannon Falls prior to her marriage. She was united in marriage to Joseph Jacobson on September 1, 1956 at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the farm near Nerstrand. The couple raised three children.
Marcelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed being on the farm and being a farm wife. She liked helping Joe on the dairy farm and was passionate about the Guernsey cattle and raising the calves. She enjoyed feeding the many cats over the years, flower gardening, vegetable gardening, baking, especially chocolate chip cookies and cooking many special meals for her family. She was an avid collector of pottery and loved reading books. Marcelyn and Joe enjoyed traveling and made many trips within the United States and a trip to Norway. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage. Marcelyn was active in her church and served as secretary and treasurer on the WELCA, taught Sunday school and attended bible study.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Jacobson of Nerstrand; daughter Cynthia Jacobson of Eden Prairie; two sons Keith (and Gretchen) Jacobson of Lake Mary, FL; Mark (and Lynn Saltiel-Jacobson) Jacobson of Jersey City, NJ; a granddaughter Caitlin Jacobson of Lake Mary, FL; brother Clair Duncan of Red Wing; sisters Norma Taylor of Cannon Falls; Lois (and Tim) Stenerson of Red Wing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Archie Duncan, Harlan Duncan; a son-in-law James Thompson; sister-in-law Dixie Duncan; and a brother-in-law Robert Taylor.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Sunday, May 12, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Vang Lutheran Church, rural Dennison with The Reverend Terje Hausken officiating. Interment will be in the Vang Lutheran Church Cemetery in Holden Township.
