Jane “Jenny” Pope was born in 1772, probably in Fauquier County, Va. She married in 1793, Maj. Abner Field (1752-1831), son of Co.l John (-1774) and Diana (or Anna Rogers) Clark Field, of Field Manor, Culpeper County, Va. He commanded the Pawtucket Rangers in the Revolution and was one of the early settlers of Kentucky. He came to Kentucky about 1784 from Culpeper County, Va. He was appointed surveyor for the eastern part of Jefferson County in 1804. He represented Jefferson County in the Virginia Legislature, 1787, 1789, and in the Kentucky Legislature, 1800-01. Their home built c1804-1831 is located at 2901 Six Mile Lane now within Louisville. His father was an officer in the British Army, served in Braddock's campaign and other Indian wars, was a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses, 1761-68, and was killed by the French and Indians at Point Pleasant in 1774. Their twelve children were Lt. Gabriel (c1794-1822) who died at Council Bluffs; Judge William (1796/7-1861); Col. Abner, Jr. (-1830); Alexander Pope (1800-76); Dr. Nathaniel (1805-88); Charles; Judith; Penelope Pope (1803-80) who married James S. LeMaster (1799-1874), of Memphis; Eleanor Greenwood Pope (1810-69); Hester E. Hester E. Field who married Arnold Wizotski, of Louisville and had several children, James, John and others; Judge John Pope (1818-56); and Elizabeth Field.

Colonel Abner Field, Jr. (-1830/32) lived in Fayette and Union Counties, Ill. He served in the Illinois militia and the Black Hawk War and was elected treasurer of Illinois, 1823-27. He married Maria James.

Judge John Pope Field (1817-56) was an attorney, member of Arkansas Legislature, 1842-43, and judge of the 6th circuit court of Arkansas, 1843-44. He married in 1843, Mary Jane Trimble (1825-95). Their children were Louisa (1844-1910), Mary Elizabeth (1846-1934), John Pope, Jr. (1848-51), Frances (1850-1937), and William Field. Mary Elizabeth Field (1846-1934) married Thomas Hamilton Simms (1838-1919). Two sons were Albert Gallatin (1882-1964) who was U.S. Congressman from New Mexico, 1929-31, and John Field Simms (1885-1954) who was Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court, 1929-31.

Jane Pope died in 1850 or 1852. Her husband, Major Field, died about November 2, 1831. They were probably buried near their home. Alternatively, they could have been buried in the cemetery of her brother, William Pope, Jr. In 2014-15, all the remains contained in the Pope cemetery were removed to the Kate Pope lot in Cave Hill Cemetery by archaeologist Jay Stottman through the efforts of James H. Barr III.
