Eulogy

Valorie, daughter of Tom and Ruth Edman, was born in rural Nemaha County Kansas on a farm often referred to as the “Old Diggings”. She quit school in the 8th grade help her mom care for a sick grandmother and never completed her education.

She married Darnell Brown in March of 1956. To this union were born 5 children, Tammy, Mabel, Darrell, Darleen, and Darcil.

After Valorie’s husband passed away, she worked nearly 40 years as a day care provider, and came to be known as “Nanny”. She was an avid quilter and was always on the lookout for a fabric sale. Valorie did much more for others than she ever did for herself.

In addition to her children, she leaves behind three granddaughters, Jennifer, Holly and Martika. She was blessed to have four great grandsons Jayleon, Jeremiah, Trajan, and Caeser.

She is survived by three sisters, Gladys, Flossie, and Peggy, and one brother Bill.

2 Corinthians 5:1, 6-10
For we know that if our earthly dwelling, a tent, should be destroyed, we have a building from God, a dwelling not made with hands, eternal in heaven. So we are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yet we are courageous, and we would rather leave the body and go home to the Lord. Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.

Valorie requested this simple grave site service, and we unerringly honor her wishes here today.

NOTE: While her birth certificate shows she was born in Onaga, Pottawatomie County, KS that was the mailing address for the property known as the “Old Diggings”, but the property is actually about two miles north of the county line in Nemaha County, Kansas. All of her brothers and sisters except Peggy (Edman) Eisenbarth were born on the farm at that location. The "Old Diggings" was around GPS Coordinates 39.587445, -96.179301, about a two miles from a church, school, and cemetery known as Neuchatel, KS. The cabin was moved to the Rock Creek Valley Historical Society, in Westmoreland, KS. The two story cabin was restored and is on display as the Hettie Summerville Cabin. Hettie was Valorie's grandmother, on her mother's side.
