Albia Union And Republican, July 27, 1922

The people of Melrose and vicinity were saddened and shocked Tuesday when news was received of the death of Francis, the 14 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Scieszinski. His illness was short, as he only complained of not feeling well Sunday. He grew worse and was taken by Dr. Moron to the St. Joseph hospital, at Ottumwa, Monday morning and operated on for appendicitis. He never rallied after the operation, as peritonitis had set in and he passed away Tuesday, about noon. The remains were brought to Melrose on No. 9 Tuesday evening and the funeral was held Thursday morning. The parents and family have the deepest sympathy of everyone in the loss of their boy, and being of a gentle quiet nature, he had many friends and playmates who grieve for him. Many friends and relatives attended his funeral.

Francis Scieszinski passed away at St. Joseph’s hospital, Ottumwa, following an operation. The remains, accompanied by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Scieszinski, and friends, were taken to his home for burial.

He was born September 3, 1907, and died July 25, 1922. All that medical aid and loving hands could do was done for him, but to no avail. He leaves to mourn his loss his parents, two brothers, Michael and William, and five sisters, Mary, Bernice, Regina, Helen and Grace. He was of a gentle quiet nature and his sunny disposition and pleasant smile will be sadly missed in the family circle and by his many friends and playmates.

Funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s church Thursday morning. His cousin, Rev. E.W. Barron of Brooklyn led requiem mass, Paul Ward, John Luttrell and Joseph Cisky, assisted at the altar. The pall bearers, also cousins of Francis, were James Barron, John Kolleher, Chris Judge, Edward Barron, Daniel Shehan, John Scieszinski, Vincent Luttrell and Patrick Scieszinski. The flowers were carried by his cousins, Irene Luttrell, Arline Carr and Irene Sheehan. His remains were laid to rest in Mt. Calvary cemetery, besides his sister, who preceded him in death a few months.
